Domestic Energy Assessor Courses
Energy Assessor College’s Domestic Energy Assessor Courses are broken into four, two-day classroom based modules that are based on the five units of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Domestic Energy Assessors – the course also leads to the ABBE Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessment.
The ABBE Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessment is a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ). Unit 1 of the NOS for Domestic Energy Assessors covers working in an effective and professional manner; Unit 2 covers contributing to the safety and security of people and property; Unit 3 covers preparing for an Energy Assessment; Unit 4 covers undertaking Energy Inspections and Unit 5 covers producing and explaining EPCs.
Starting your training
Once you’ve been selected for the training and have enrolled on one of our domestic energy assessor courses, your first step will be to book and attend the first module.
After you’ve taken the first module you simply complete the required home revision and then sit and pass the module test to ensure that sufficient knowledge has been gained to move to the next stage of becoming a domestic energy assessor. Courses continue through the remaining three modules, sitting exams at the end of each.
Each of the four modules consist of two days classroom based training, plus practical on-site training in module 3 and two on-site EPC assessments in module 4. Modules run Monday to Saturday, 9.00am – 5.00pm.
The next step after completing the four modules of the domestic energy assessor course is to independently produce three further EPCs on a range of different property types you’ve sourced. An EAC assessor will evaluate your five EPCs. These EPCs contribute towards your Portfolio of Evidence, which is a record of knowledge, understanding and competence gained during training and is a requirement of the ABBE Diploma.
The final stage of our domestic energy assessor course is to take the external exam set by ABBE, the awarding body. Once this is passed, you are awarded the ABBE Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessment.
